Ski Safely

Skiers and snowboarders are going faster than ever with the new equipment that is available now. It is more important than ever to practice safe skiing and riding on the slopes.  Here are some tips that are common sense, but often not followed.

1.    When stopping,  go to the side of the trail. Often snowboarders flop down on a slope to rest, thus making themselves a target. Never stop underneath a blind drop.
2.    Make sure your skis are sharp and your bindings set correctly.
3.    Be aware of traffic coming into your trail from the side.
4.    Don’t ski faster than you ability level.
5.    The best snow is on the sides of a trail.
6.    Alcohol and skiing don’t mix.
7.    Listening to music when you ski isn’t a good idea. You can’t hear skiers and boarders approaching you.
8.    Be careful in the late afternoon. Skiers are tired and more apt to be make mistakes.
9.    Don’t ski out of bounds.
10. Condition yourself before ski season. Prevent injuries.
