Christmas Times Past
I remember the days of hockey on pine peat bogs,
Walking home in the dark through the cold air,
Finding a leaping fire, and music to warm by,
The snow fell then, as darkness came.
We walked through the snow to the local ponds,
Sliding over shiny surfaces, eyes toward the sky,
Singing the music of childhood, soon to pass,
Hearing the sounds of metal on ice.
The lights of Christmas lit the night.
The sounds of carolers filled the air,
Stars high in the sky seemed so close,
Winter trees rattled in night’s wind.
Shoveling the storm’s snow,
The fields become quiet,
As the brown deer walked quietly,
And the silver moon rose in the sky.
