I arrived at Rancho Carlsbad Golf Course a couple of hours before my lesson with Clark Renner at 10:00. I hit some balls, scoured the creek bed for lost golf balls, and played a couple of holes. While drinking a coffee, I watched golf pro Don Emerick teach some middle school girls. In addition to golf instruction he was teaching the girls how to set up a tee time and then purchase range balls. He gave each girl a script and had her approach the front desk to make purchases. What a great idea!
I told him I thought what he was doing was terrific and then recommended teen-ager Kathryn Hamilton’s videos with golf digest. An actress, Kathryn is also a high school golf champion. Her tapes, which provide golf instruction in addition to how to get a tee time and manage a golf day, are funny, instructive, and helpful.During my lesson I worked with Clark on keeping my right arm straight and turning the club over quickly to promote a draw. Keeping my head and body totally still while putting will always be a work in progress.
