The drive through rural north Escondido early this morning
was pleasant. The air was cool, the roads were empty, and rugged hills were
invigorating. Tom Hardy and I noticed there were no flags on holes 1 and 2. I
asked a workman, and he said, “ Man no come to work today,” I then called the
pro shop, and they sent someone out to deliver the flags.
Eagle Crest use to be a manicured course, but things seemed
to be going downhill. The fairways needed water, and a lot of vegetation was
overgrown. In spite of all this we had a good day, topped off by breakfast at
the Incredible Café, a terrific breakfast spot in Rancho Bernado.
