J.R. Valentien

Recently I have had the opportunity to dine at J.R. Valentien, the fine restaurant at the Lodge at Torrey Pines. The Lodge, which overlooks the Torrey Pines Golf course, not only provides spectacular views, but also is decorated with beautiful accouterments. The hotel in keeping with its Craftsmen Design has craftsmen furniture spread throughout the premises.  It is fun walk around the hotel and its grounds before going into dinner.

The ambiance of the restaurant is wonderful with good views, outdoor dining if desired, and tasteful decorations. I have found the food to be excellent. The chef usually has a few treats throughout the meal. The menu always features a few meat and fish dishes.

The staff at the restaurant consistently is pleasant and knowledgeable. One night after dinner the maƮtre d walked around with a bottle of 18-year-old scotch and poured after dinner drinks for interested diners. How can you beat that?
