Montana Diary

Stories from the Road
March 11, 2017
Big Sky, Montana

Last night we went to Buck’s T-4 restaurant, which is about 12 miles from Big Sky. The restaurant will pick up guests in their van at no charge and bring them home at the end of the meal. Or driver, ski instructor by day and van driver by night, was congenial and full of information about the area.

Buck's
Buck’s was situated in a log building that was rustic and attractive. Local art adorned the walls, and there were a number of working fireplaces in operation. It was the kind of place you would imagine to find in rural Montana.

Buck's
The menu was varied and had traditional meat dishes in addition to more esoteric offerings such as pheasant quesadilla and rabbit pot pie. Several of us had walleye, a mild white fish from Wisconsin and Minnesota. It was very tasty as were our deserts of Russian cream and an oversized homemade cookie with ice cream.

Our waitress was competent and straightforward. Most of the other guests had a skier or outdoor look to them. The prices at Buck’s were reasonable, and we’ll be going back on Sunday evening.

Dennis and Vicki
The day started out with cold temperatures and hard snow, which softened over time, as the sun became stronger. We had fun runs all morning and stopped for an early lunch at Everett’s, a restaurant at the top of the Ramcharger lift. Vicki and I spilt a terrific burger, while Dennis had a bowl of French onion soup. Our waitress was friendly and touchy, but she kept forgetting stuff.

Later we made some runs down steep trails, but the snow was icy and the light was poor. We decided to pack it in and head back to our hotel for rest, a hot tub, and a nap. Janet and Franck went touring in Yellowstone National Park and should be back for supper.
