Local golf courses I like

1. Torrey Pines is the signature golf course in San Diego, but it is crowded and expensive. The North Course is the easiest one. It is 5 minutes from Del Mar. Check the website to learn how to get a tee time.
2. The Crossings in Carlsbad is a difficult, but very interesting course. It is the most expensive public course ever to be built in the country. It is 20 minutes from Del Mar. 760-444-1800
3. Arrowood is in Oceanside. It is a well maintained, challenging course with some interesting holes. It is about 40 minutes from Del Mar. 760-967-8400
4. The Rancho Bernado Inn has a very pretty course that is consumer friendly with wide fairways. It is well maintained, and lunch on the patio after a round is a treat. It is about 30 minutes from San Diego. 858-675-8470
5. Encinitas Ranch is a fun, forgiving course with open fairways. It is fun to play. It is about 15-20 minutes from Del Mar. 760-944-1936
6. Oaks North in Rancho Bernado features three nine hole executive courses. They are very well maintained and fun to play. It is 30 minutes from Del Mar. 858-487-3021
7. Carmel Mountain Ranch is a target golf course that is very interesting. It isn’t long, but one needs to make precise shots to score well.
8. Mt. Woodson in Ramona is an experience. It is short, convoluted, hilly, and hard. If you don’t know the course, you can lose a lot of golf balls. On some of the holes there isn’t much wiggle room.
