If your travels take you to upstate New York, there is a place you might want to visit. Cazenovia is a small town about one half hour south of Syracuse. Set on a picturesque lake, the town features numerous quaint inns and bed and breakfast facilities. Attractive homes and shops line the main street. Cazenovia is set amongst rolling hills which are mostly farmland. I stopped to take a picture of a red barn, and a deer bounded out of the undergrowth near the highway!

We stayed at the Brae Loch Inn which couldn’t have been nicer. The room was spacious with two closets. There was more than ample storage space, and the furniture was classic
Stickley, made in nearby Manlius. The Inn featured an excellent restaurant on site along with an attractive pub type bar, which seemed to be a favorite spot for locals.

Southern Californians will not only appreciate the scenery, reasonable prices, and friendly people in this area of New York State, but they will also find the low population density refreshing. Cars are few, and there is not a mall on every corner. Summer is great in Cazenovia with the lake right there, but fall is outstanding also with colorful foliage, fresh native apples, and local, sharp cheddar cheese.
The easiest way to get to Cazenovia is to fly to Chicago, take another plane to Syracuse, and then rent a car.
