Stories fro the Road
Snowmass Village, CO.
January 26/27 2016
The powder on upper slot was hard this morning at 8:40 as
the five of us made our first turns of the day. There were Vicki, me, Bruce and Carl from the Chicago area,
and Kirby from Iowa. As the morning wore on we moved across the mountain, as
the snow softened. It was a terrific morning capped with a few runs on The Edge, a roller coaster trail high on the mountain.
After lunch Vicki and I made a couple of runs and came in early. The guys
stayed out for the rest of the afternoon.

I paid my debt to Nancy last night by buying her a martini
at the Westin. We sat with her husband Roger, and their good friend Ken, who
has to leave today due to his wife’s illness. Ken had one humorous ski anecdote
after another, and it was an
enjoyable time. After the group left to have dinner in Basalt, a small
town a few miles west of Snowmass, Vicki and I walked downstairs to the
Westin’s restaurant.

This morning we met our friend Mike Fetters who lives in
Boston and L.A. He is a gracious, caring person who is an accomplished skier.
His style on the groomed runs is flawless, but he shines, when he disappears
into the woods. I watched him cutting in and around trees, skis together,
making excellent turns. His next ski trip is in Jackson Hole, where his son
teaches school, when he is not jumping off cliffs into steep chutes on the
mountain.
The X Games begin soon here, and we’ll have some of the
competitors staying at our hotel. They take place at Buttermilk, an area a few
miles from Snowmass. We may have to revise our plan of going into Aspen on
Saturday, as the parking will be scarce.
Have a good day.
