Putting is Work!

Say what?  How can a slight movement of the arms and shoulders be considered work?  Here’s how.

Good putting requires an accurate read of the line your ball must take. This means you have to look at the hole from a number of perspectives. As you walk to the green look at the hole and try to see your line. Do the same from the other side of the cup. Sometimes there is a discrepancy in perspectives. From below the line looks left, while from above the line looks right. Try to sort this out before you putt.

Once you have your line, get close to your ball, be very still, and try to make a smooth stroke toward the hole. You should be relaxed but focused. Try to eliminate the tendency to follow your ball with your eyes. Don’t move until you hear the sound of the ball dropping in the cup.

Sometimes I am lazy and don’t go through my routine of checking out the line from multiple perspectives. I usually pay the price and miss the putt. The work is worth it!
