Whitefish Ski Area, formerly called, Big Mountain, is a rugged place. Overlooking Flathead Lake, the area is small but exciting when conditions are good. There are numerous challenging trails along with some fun cruiser runs. On a clear day, skiers can look into Glacier National Park some thirty miles away. The price of a lift ticket is reasonable, and skiers over 70 ski for free!
The mountain is known for fog which creates whiteout conditions. There are wands to guide skiers down the mountain, and they say Whitefish skiers are the best because they rarely see the trail or their feet. The area is usually uncrowded and is frequented by locals and Canadiens.
