Travel: Bermuda

Not many Californians visit the small island of Bermuda an hour and a half by plane from Boston. Lying 600 miles off the coast of North Carolina, Bermuda has a tropical climate due to the Gulfstream Winds.

With Hawaii as close, why should one go to Bermuda, a place where there is no water source other than rainwater and what is brought in.? A British overseas territory, Bermuda is quaint, attractive, and interesting. I went most recently on a golf package and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

All food in Bermuda is imported. Not surprisingly eating out is very expensive. Lunches can easily run $75 and dinners twice that. Within a day or two of being there, we went to the grocery store and had lunch and breakfast in our room.

Traffic is heavy on the island, and the most efficient way to get around is by motor scooter. Rental shops are easy to find. The native islanders are very friendly and helpful.

Summers are hot, and early fall often brings hurricanes. April and May are good months to go to Bermuda, though rain is always a possibility. We went in November. We had some misty weather, but overall it was good.
