The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!" Trump tweeted this morning.Trump was referring to federal Judge James Robart (a Bush appointee, by the way) who yesterday put a nationwide hold on Trump’s travel ban.
Someone needs to teach Trump that under the Constitution, the judiciary is independent. For a President to level a personal attack on a federal judge who disagrees with him is a dangerous overstepping of presidential power. Trump’s rant is further evidence that he seeks to be a dictator, not a president.
At the very least, Congress must censure Trump for this brazen attack on the independence of the courts, and on the separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution. (I hope there's a motion of censure Monday, and that it's bipartisan.)
