NYC
It was another hot, breezy day in Manhattan yesterday. The health department was doing a routine inspection of our breakfast spot, so we were delayed on our walk through Central Park. The walkways were full of young children and their teachers on outings. 10-speed bikes were zooming, and the usual horse-drawn carts were moving tourists through the park.
First stop was the Museum of Modern Art. We were all good for about an hour and a half of museum time. I enjoyed the Picasso and Monet paintings along with "Christina's World" by Andrew Wyeth. A couple of years ago in Maine Dennis had taken us to the Olsen home in the painting. While there we inadvertently stumbled on the graves of Chistina Olsen and Andrew Wyeth on a knoll overlooking the bay.
Cokes in the museum cafeteria were good for lunch before we continued our journey to Broadway for the matinee show of, " Come from Away". In 2001 after the attack on the World Trade Center planes from Europe were diverted to Labrador until the authorities could sort out the situation. The musical, which is funny, poignant, somber, and moving, chronicles the experiences of the townspeople and the passengers during this difficult time.
I sat next to a woman from Northern New Jersey who was a regular theatre-goer. She was a nice person who went out of her way to make sure she didn't crowd me in the small space called a "seat".
After the show, we walked through busy Times Square past heavily armed Trump Tower on route to our hotel on the Upper East Side. Dinner was at a nice French bistro called, "Cognac" near Lexington Avenue. we all had steak and fries followed by a peach melba for the table. It had been a good day.
